Get your ducks in a row and head to the Yachats River
Bridge. The Duck Race for Kids' Sake -- a wacky event to
benefit the Yachats Youth & Family Activities Program -- is slated for
July 4 at 2:30pm.
Adopt-a-duck, line the shore and cheer your rubber ducky to a fast finish.
On July 4, one thousand ducks will be dropped from the Yachats River Bridge
in a race to the Yachats River Bay. The first ducks to cross the finish line
will earn prizes. Prizes include a sailboat cruise, bed and breakfast accommodations,
a skateboard and more.
Feeling lucky? Ducks are available for just $5 each, or three for $10. Buy
your chance to win at the Yachats Visitors Center, 241 Hwy 101, 541-547-3530;
Chuck's Waldport Video, 520 Commercial St, 541-563-4898; and area hotels
and restaurants. Ducks will also be available during the Yachats Fourth of
July parade and festivities.
All proceeds will benefit the Yachats Youth & Family Activities Program
(YYAFP), a nonprofit organization providing a variety of low-cost classes
and activities for area youth. Founded in 1995 by the Friends of the Yachats
Commons Foundation, in 2000 the project achieved tax-exempt status
to thrive as an independent organization. YYAFP offers a variety of
affordable programming, including preschool, after-school and summer activities,
family nights, parent education, teen and tween programs and a host of art
classes. Programs and activities take place at the Yachats Commons.
"We are so excited to hold the second annual duck race in Yachats," says
Debbie Jackson, YYFAP administrator. "It will be silly and fun and will
help us continue to offer quality, affordable educational and entertaining
programs for our kids."
